Congratulations are in order
Jay wrote this today:
As a couple of you have mentioned, the Raptors swept the awards for January, with Mitchell getting Coach of the Month, Bargnani Rookie of the Month and Bosh Player of the Month. Note that this is the first time a team has swept the monthly awards, which may seem unreal, but yep, it’s true. No Raptor has ever been player of the month either, so there’s another milestone.
So yes, congratulations to all, but let’s give a special congratulations to Mitchell. Okay, let’s get this out there for the millionth time. I still don’t think Mitchell is where he needs to be on an NBA level. He still has some rotation issues and when it’s crunch time and the Raptors need to work out an efficient play, they’re out of luck. But you can’t argue with going 5-10, then 8-8, then 10-5. That’s steady improvement and while not all of it can be attributed to Sam, you have to give him some credit for learning and helping himself.
That’s all.

Want a chuckle, both at the author’s reasoning and the scathing comments afterwards check…

On another note, signed up for Raps TV on an introductory offer from Rogers…no one is denying me my Raps tonight dammit - hmmm, bloody cable better not go out now that I’ve said that.
Anyone have predictions for tonight? I’m thinking tight game with a gradual pull away by the Raps.
Any word on who’s starting at point guard tonight?

Nice link, thanks for sending that. We always have to take into consideration that if the Raptors and Team B play the exact same teams and have the exact same records, the Raptors will always be ranked behind Team B. They’re a Canadian team, they’re still relatively young, that’s how it works. If you think this guy has issues with his rankings, you already know what I think of Marty Burns and his on cnnsi.com. Yikes.
Not sure who’s starting at PG tonight, but I think Sam will probably go with TJ tonight. Hopefully, he won’t burn TJ out, just split the minutes and let him ease back into it.
Raptors TV could be my favourite channel. Raptors games, NBA games almost every night, D-League games (which are surprisingly entertaining), NCAA, European Superleague…Hoops, NBA XL there’s so much good stuff on there. It’s honestly worth the investment, a few bucks a month, essentially, you have to give up one beer at the pub each month and you’re set. Only drawback, you have more Norma Wick. Here’s the thing about Norma. She knows her basketball and when you’re a woman and you’ve held the basketball positions she has, it’s that much more impressive (let’s be honest, it is probably a million times tougher for women to get ahead in most sports circles, although basketball tends to be more progressive). That being said, Norma is terrible on television and can’t interview to save her life. I just wanted to throw Jim Todd a lifeline a few times, get him out of there.
Tough to predict tonight. As I mentioned in a post, I don’t think Atlanta’s as bad as their record indicates, but the Raptors should pull it out if they can control JJ and get J-Chill frustrated early off the bench.

I agree with you on Mitchell. Everything I’ve heard has one of D’Antoni’s assistants taking over next year when Mitchell’s contract is up, but I like the way this is heading right now. Jersey just got blown out tonight, and if they decide to tank the season and ship Kidd and/or Carter, we’re styling, and I guarantee you nobody in the East wants to play the Raps in the playoffs. With all the new pieces they put in place this year, this was going to be a situation where the team was going to steadily improve as they became more familiar with each other. I think that’s why the monthly record has steadily improved this year. Let’s just hope the injury bug don’t bite.
